Emunah: Ruach Hakodesh - G-d is a DJ
26 March 2007

Emunah describe themselves as "Jewish / Middle Eastern music meets hip hop, drum and bass, breaks and electronica". They aim to blend styles, making club-friendly but challenging music, spitting lyrics to make people think while they are dancing.

Emunah will be looking at the ideas of Nigunim (wordless songs) in Jewish music and to relate this to lyrical content, Jewish energy, dance and club culture. They will be presenting the idea of a link between Jewish liturgy, spirituality and music. Participants will get to have a chance to try blending a Nigun with their own style of music.

Emunah have presented a number of talks and workshops on connections between Judaism and Hip Hop.

The Guardian called them 'the UK's hot new Jewish hip-hop act', but what do they know? The Emunah crew hail from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, including Jewish, Palestinian, Pakistani, Irish and Russian. Emunah's repertoire spans hiphop, reggae, breaks and drum and bass, shaking dancefloors with their unique fusion of melodies from around the world, kicking beats, uplifting vocals and rolling basslines.
